Teaching about the Holocaust and Human Rights - Seminar for teachers in Bulgaria DTSTAMP:20240907T234036Z DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20240714 DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20240718 DESCRIPTION:Teachers from Bulgaria are invited to apply to the seminar Lear ning from the Past\, Acting for the Future\, organized by The Olga Lengyel Institute for Holocaust Studies and Human Rights (TOLI). The event is add ressed to teachers of any discipline who are motivated to teach about thes e topics\, and it will take place in Blagoevgrad from 14 to 18 July 2024.\ n\nThe pedagogical approach used and promoted during the seminar is an int erdisciplinary one\, which starts from the belief that Holocaust is one of the most complex phenomena in world history and it should never be reduce d to simplistic explanations. This interdisciplinary approach combines met hods of Holocaust education\, human rights education and intercultural edu cation\, with the aim to support teachers to empower their students to bec ome active citizens. The seminar will develop the teachers’ competences to guide students in learning about the past\, understanding the way in whic h the past is connected with the present\, and contributing to democratic and intercultural societies in which every individual can live a life of d ignity.\n\nAfter the seminar\, the teachers will be supported to implement meaningful educational activities with their students which incorporate w hat they learned during the seminar and use the interdisciplinary methodol ogy developed by TOLI.\n\nThe project is implemented with assistance from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany\, sponsored by th e Foundation Remembrance\, Responsibility and Future and supported by the German Federal Ministry of Finance.\n\nThe seminar is developed by TOLI in partnership with the American University in Bulgaria\, Shalom Organizatio n and Central Israelite Religious Council of Bulgaria.\n\nTeachers of any discipline from throughout Bulgaria can apply online.
