Description

We are pleased to announce the History Education Dissertation Prize, a new initiative from EuroClio – European Association of History Educators, in collaboration with the International Society for History Didactics (ISHD), the Centre for Historical Culture at Erasmus University Rotterdam, the History Educators International Research Network (HEIRNET), and the International Research Association for History and Social Science Education (IRAHSSE). This prize aims to bridge the gap between academic research and classroom practice by recognising doctoral work that offers real, practical value to history teachers and making that research accessible and usable for educators worldwide. We are looking for excellent PhD dissertations (defended between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2025) that history teachers themselves will find immediately useful in their classrooms. A jury representing the participating organisations will shortlist three finalists, and history teachers will vote on the winner, ensuring the prize goes to research they consider most valuable. The winner receives €1,000, and the two runners-up each receive €500. All three finalists will be invited to the EuroClio Annual Conference in Brussels (26-29 April 2026), with all costs covered, to present their research, meet with leading practitioners and researchers, record a podcast about their work, and collaborate with a visual artist to create an animated presentation of their findings for wide dissemination. The application deadline is 15 January 2026. The winner will be announced at the EuroClio Annual Conference. Full eligibility criteria, submission guidelines, and application information are available at https://euroclio.eu/2025/09/19/history-education-dissertation-prize/.
