Description

Theme: Memory Wars: Facts, Disinformation, and the Politics of Remembrance The 14th European Remembrance Symposium, organised by ENRS, takes place on 27–29 May 2026 in Bratislava, Slovakia. It is an annual international gathering for historians, memory practitioners, educators, and policymakers working in the field of European historical memory. This edition examines how collective memory is increasingly weaponised in political conflicts — both within societies and in the context of international hybrid warfare. Panels and workshops will address memory as a tool of disinformation and propaganda, the dissonances between Eastern and Western European historical experiences, and the question of whether a shared European memory is possible amid today's geopolitical tensions. The symposium also features Turbo Presentations — a fast-paced open format in which participants have 120 seconds each to present their organisation or project to the audience. It is an excellent opportunity to share work, exchange ideas, and find potential partners across the European remembrance and history education community. Proposals for turbo presentations are accepted until end of April 2026. Participation in the symposium is free of charge.
