Description

Are you a student with a passion for history and politics and would you like to debate these subjects during the 6th OHTE Annual Conference, entitled “Manipulating history, undermining democracy” being held at the Council of Europe, Strasbourg, France from 8-9 October 2026? Send us your video application and join us for this experience! To apply, make sure you meet the following requirements: • You have a master's degree or doctorate in history, political science, international relations or an equivalent field of study • You are under 30 years of age • You are a national of one of the member states of the Council of Europe • You have an excellent level of English (C1 or higher), and are able to express yourself clearly and convincingly in front of a large audience In addition to your CV, please send us a video (no longer than 2 minutes) sharing your thoughts in favor of the motion: “Gen Z are better equipped to identify manipulations of history than Baby Boomers” Send your video using WeTransfer or similar to the following address: ohte@coe.int The 3 best candidates will be invited to participate in the 6th OHTE Annual Conference and participate in an Oxford-style debate on the motion “Gen Z are better equipped to identify manipulations of history than Baby Boomers”. They will be part of the team arguing in favour of the motion and debating against Baby Boomers participants. The deadline for submitting applications is 26 June 2026. The assessment criteria will be: • Clarity and structure of the argument (i.e. relevant and well-organised arguments) – 30% • Quality of oral delivery (i.e. clear diction and appropriate tone) – 20% • Relevance and originality of the speech (i.e. ability to nuance the debate, to capture interest and stimulate reflection, use of examples to support arguments) – 50%
