Description

History Teaching in the Digital Age: Practices, Artificial Intelligence and Future Needs in Europe is a European study exploring how history teachers use digital technologies, how they view generative artificial intelligence, and what resources and support they need for the coming years. The study examines classroom and professional practices, barriers to using digital resources, experiences with generative AI, and priorities for professional learning. It also recognises teachers’ deliberate use of non-digital approaches when these better support their learning goals. The questionnaire gathers teachers’ experiences and perspectives; it is not a test of digital competence. Participation is open to teachers who currently teach history to primary- or secondary-school-age students, either as a separate subject or within an integrated subject area. The questionnaire has 25 language versions and takes approximately 10–12 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and no names, school names or email addresses are requested. The research is conducted by Platforma Klio (Croatia), TTE – History Teachers’ Association (Hungary), and UDI EUROCLIO (Serbia), led by Miljenko Hajdarović. Data collection is scheduled for 1–30 November 2026. Findings will be reported in aggregate to inform professional learning, practical support and discussion about the future of history education in Europe.
