Description

Experience European History everywhere with new virtual tour! The virtual tour platform provides a free interactive environment to delve into the museum’s permanent exhibition. What triggered the First World War? What happened in the Cold War? Who was involved in the ‘kitchen debate’? How did mass tourism start in Europe? The House of European History’s virtual tour allows a range of audiences — from previous visitors, civil society, teachers, academics and amateur history enthusiasts — to explore these questions and more, wherever they are and whenever they want. Project leader Simina Badica: “The virtual tour opens up our museum to everyone across the continent. It is particularly useful for people who cannot physically visit the museum in Brussels. It allows you to experience European History like never before, and in any one of twenty-four European languages.” Online visitors can choose from a full chronological tour of the galleries, or select one of fourteen thematic tours, on for example the World Wars, Creating Social Security, Milestones of European Integration and Shared and Divided European Memory. To create a content-rich experience, the platform features dynamic storytelling and presentations from the curator team in the exhibition space, accompanied by 1133 videos, 3127 audio narrations and 251 high resolution images of objects on display. For education professionals teaching European Integration, an online workshop is available in English, French, German or Dutch, explaining how to expertly navigate the virtual tour and use the museum’s learning resources effectively.
