Description
We're thrilled to announce that Prof. Jay Winter will be joining us next week, 19 April, to deliver an insightful lecture titled 'The Odyssey of the Mir Yeshiva from Vilna to Singapore and Beyond'. This lecture marks the opening of our exhibition 'Between Life and Death: Stories of Rescue during the Holocaust' in Kaunas, Lithuania. The Mir Yeshiva fled to Kaunas during World War II in 1941 before finding refuge in Shanghai. Their journey to safety, alongside thousands of other Jewish refugees, owes much to the brave efforts of individuals like the Dutch consul Jan Zwartendijk and the Japanese consul-general to Lithuania, Chiune Sugihara.
