About me

I am a primary school teacher in Cyprus public schools and an education officer for history education at the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute. I hold a BEd in Primary Education (University of Cyprus), an MA in History Education (University of London) and a PhD also in History Education (UCL Institute of Education). In the past I worked as a teaching fellow for history education at the University of Cyprus, as a teacher at the Cyprus Educational Mission of Great Britain and as an education officer at the Department of Curricula, Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture. I also taught history education at the European University Cyprus. Between 2013 and 2018 I was appointed by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus as a history education advisor for the development of history curricula, teachers’ training and educational material in primary and secondary education in Cyprus. I am a member of the Executive Committee of the History Educators International Research Network and coordinator of the History Education SIG of the Cyprus Pedagogical Association. My research interests include children and adult’s ideas of historical empathy, the development of historical frameworks to organize substantive knowledge, the teaching of controversial issues in history, the role of popular culture and ICT in history education, the political aspects of history education and philosophy of history.
