About us
Founded in late 2016, CUAC introduced the concept of diverse literature to Romania: books about all children, for all children. It has facilitated the creation of more than 25 illustrated books with characters whose voices are rarely heard, including “Povestea kendamei pierdute” (The Story of the Lost Kendama) by Adina Rosetti, winner of the Romanian Writers’ Union Prize in 2018, “Inelul cu cap de cal” (The Horse-Head Ring), the first illustrated history of the Roma for children, by two Roma authors, and “Bariș. De vorbă cu ploaia”, the first picture book written by a Roma author sold in Romanian libraries. The multi-awarded BARE RROMA series, about 12 Roma personalities in childrens books, written by Roma authors and donated across Romania in more than 15000 copies. The books come with more than 40 teaching guides and two educational games, on the rights of people with disabilities and on Roma history. For teachers, CUAC has held more than 50 webinars and launched the pentrudiversitate.org platform in 2024, with a free video course and 5,800 registered teachers. It has donated more than 31,000 books, and more than 9,000 teachers and 240,000 children have benefited directly from its initiatives.
