Description

The seminar, organized by the Ministry of Education and the Council of Europe, aimed to address issues in the reform of history teaching in "the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia." It brought together representatives from the Ministry of Education, experts from Skopje University, advisers from the Pedagogical Institute, teachers from across the country, and speakers from the Council of Europe. The seminar emphasized the need for a new approach to history education that goes beyond memorization of facts and dates, focusing on critical thinking, understanding one's own history in a global context, and avoiding nationalistic biases. It marked a positive initiative in challenging political and economic circumstances and aimed to foster cooperation and a more genuine and critical approach to history teaching, as well as improving the curriculum, textbooks, and teacher training.
