Description
he Regional Seminar on "The reform of history teaching in secondary schools" took place in Tabakhmela, Georgia, in September 1997, as part of the Secretary General's New Initiative. It was a significant event as the first such seminar in the region after Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia's accession to the European Cultural Convention. The seminar gathered officials from education ministries, pedagogical institutes, textbook authors, and publishers from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, the Russian Federation, and Turkey. Its objectives were to assess progress in developing new history curricula and address common challenges, discuss the creation and publication of new history textbooks, and explore the standards' preparation and implementation. The opening ceremony featured welcome speeches from prominent Georgian figures and representatives from the Council of Europe's Directorate of Education, Culture, and Sport. The seminar's program details can be found in the document's appendix.
