Description

This report focuses on the primary and secondary education systems in Kosovo, specifically addressing three key issues: the protection of the identity and rights of non-majority communities in education, the failure of separate Kosovo and Serbian curriculum schools to promote inter-ethnic dialogue and tolerance, and the integration opportunities for non-majority students through learning official languages. Conflict over authority, physical separation of educational systems, absence of learning the other official language, and insufficient efforts to promote interactions between Kosovo Albanian and Kosovo Serb teachers and students contribute to separation. Additionally, the content of history textbooks further exacerbates division. Inadequate Albanian language education for non-Albanian communities is identified as a problem, resulting in poor language learning, reduced opportunities for educational and employment integration, and a competitive disadvantage for non-Albanian students. The report suggests suggestions recommended actions to mitigate these challenges to make the operation of multi-ethnic schools that integrate children from different systems and communities a reality.
