Description
The website is dedicated primarily to commemorating the 2 August. This is the day and night in 1944 when the last 4,300 Sinti and Roma in the German Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, were murdered by the SS despite their fierce resistance. In memory of all 500,000 Sinti and Roma murdered in Nazi-occupied Europe, the European Parliament declared this date the European Holocaust Memorial Day for Sinti and Roma in 2015. The website consists of a variety of resources for commemorative and educational purposes, including a Remembrance Archive for testimonies, a section on history with Block 13 – The permanent exhibition about the Holocaust of Sinti and Roma (a Virtual Tour is also available on the website), information on the struggle for the recognition of Roma and Sinti people and their human rights, further educational tools and Remembrance through Culture (films, music, poetry and art).
