Description
Over the years, educators across our European network have asked for clearer guidance on how to approach visits to Holocaust memorial sites and museums. This guide responds directly to that need and is grounded in The Olga Lengyel Institute for Holocaust Studies and Human Rights' interdisciplinary methodology combining Holocaust education, human rights education, and intercultural education. The guide aims to support teachers in designing site and museum visits that are intentional, reflective, and educationally meaningful. It brings together general guidance and ready-to-use activities with adaptable student handouts, offering practical support for work with students before, during, and after visits, in contexts ranging from major Holocaust museums to local places of memory. As survivor testimony becomes increasingly rare, these sites take on an even greater responsibility as witnesses to history. How we frame and accompany visits matters not only for historical understanding, but for helping students connect past injustices to present-day responsibilities and the protection of human dignity.
