Description

This publication presents the outputs of the symposium "Towards a pluralist and tolerant approach to teaching history," organised by the Council of Europe's Council for Cultural Co-operation (CDCC) and the French Community of Belgium, which was part of the CDCC project "Learning and teaching about the history of Europe in the 20th century." This project aims to promote historical awareness that involves understanding different perspectives and developing critical thinking skills, including the ability to identify bias and stereotypes in historical sources. The symposium focused on exploring various 20th-century history sources such as archives, museums, oral history, cinema, and television, with experts and history teachers discussing their potential and challenges. This publication includes expert contributions, case studies, and a key recommendation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on history education in Europe.
