Description

This study presents the first comparative study of the structures of initial training for history teachers in various European countries. The study provides insights into the standards and structures governing the initial training of history teachers in countries like Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the Russian Federation, Spain, and the United Kingdom (E/W). Its aim is to offer information that can enhance the professionalism of history teaching and teacher training, especially in light of rapid cultural changes. The study explores aspects of teacher training, including program models, duration, assessment, curricula, and institutional involvement. It also examines the social context in which history teachers work, including demographics, teacher backgrounds, gender trends, salaries, and post-graduation employment prospects. The study was made possible through the support of the Council of Europe, the Austrian Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture, and the Czech Ministry of Education.
