Description

The seminar marked the fifth edition of an ongoing dialogue about the transformation of history teaching in Serbia. A diverse array of participants convened, spanning various educational roles and backgrounds – from teachers in both urban and rural settings to textbook authors and representatives of minority groups. The central objective of the seminar was to address the alignment of Serbia's educational standards with those of European Union countries, with a particular emphasis on the creation of textbooks in minority languages and their integration into teacher training programs. The event commenced with the opening remarks by the Deputy Minister of Education and Sport, who underscored the significance of this endeavor. Representatives from the Council of Europe and OSCE also played a crucial role in the seminar, highlighting their collaborative efforts in the realm of history education. These initiatives encompassed projects centered on pivotal European historical events, the incorporation of multiperspectivity in history teaching, and fostering regional cooperation. Importantly, the seminar underscored the pivotal role of history education in nurturing civil society, advancing linguistic and educational recognition for national minorities, and promoting cooperative endeavors between international organizations in this crucial educational sphere.
