Description
This publication summarizes a seminar organized by the Slovenian Ministry of Education and the Council of Europe, focusing on history education in the context of 20th-century European history. The seminar aimed to disseminate the outcomes of the "Teaching and Learning about the History of Europe in the 20th Century" project, particularly the Handbook "Teaching 20th Century European History" by Dr. Robert Stradling. The event gathered educators from South East Europe to explore the teaching of sensitive and controversial historical issues, such as the events leading to the Second World War in the region. It also introduced various teaching materials and resources aimed at enhancing history education in secondary schools, emphasizing topics like women's history, cinema in history teaching, the Holocaust, and population flows in Europe during the 20th century. Overall, the seminar and its associated publications underscored the significance of discussing and teaching complex historical narratives in post-communist Central and East European countries and provided valuable resources to support educators in addressing these topics effectively.
