Description
(Adopted by the Committee of Ministers on 25 April 1985 at its 76th Session) In 1985, the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers adopted Resolution (85) 6, emphasizing the significance of European cultural identity and the role of cultural cooperation. The resolution acknowledges the importance of cultural cooperation in enhancing European awareness and recognizes that unity in diversity enriches the common European cultural heritage. It emphasizes that European traditions and identity are not bound by political boundaries and believes that strengthening cultural cooperation can foster mutual understanding among European peoples and states. The resolution calls for Council of Europe member states to express their readiness for cultural cooperation with Eastern European countries and tasks the Ministers' Deputies with exploring areas for closer cooperation with non-Council of Europe and non-European Cultural Convention parties and reporting their findings. It recommends member states support measures for intensifying cultural cooperation among all European states, reflecting the belief in the common interest of preserving and expanding this shared heritage.
